’’On 14 January 2023 Arestovych stated that the explosion that caused the destruction of a multi-storey residential building (that killed more than 40 people[1]) that day in Dnipro was caused by a Ukrainian air defense counterattack.[42][43] He apologized for this the next day, but withdrew his apology a couple of hours later.[43] The official Ukrainian position is that a Russian fired Kh-22 anti-ship missile struck the building.[44] People who lived in the building also rejected Arestovych’s version of events.[45] On 16 January 2023 Russian President Vladimir Putin’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov stated Arestovych’s 14 January explanation about what happened in Dnipro was plausible.[42] The same day various Ukrainian MPs were preparing a collective appeal to the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) regarding Arestovych’s 14 January statements.[46] Following the outrage regarding Arestovich’s comments, he resigned on 17 January 2023.[47] The President’s Office of Ukraine granted his request for dismissal the same day.[1]’
